This past weekend I got together with Mark L, one of our account execs., and shot this slow motion video using one of our rental Sony PXW-FS7 cameras and a Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q external recorder. We encountered some challenges with lighting and exposing the shot for 240 frames per second recording but we eventually figured out what we needed. It also took some time to figure out the post production process required to create usable video files from the Odyssey RAW data and how to turn the RAW footage into something worth looking at. I used DaVinci Resolve Lite to set the levels and to color grade the footage and then did my final edits and speed ramping in Final Cut Pro X.
Mark and I are working on a workflow write up, complete with screen captures of the menus and settings on the Sony PXW-FS7 and the Odyssey so you can follow along with the exact steps needed for high frame rate shooting and post processing. Look for that in the next week, and if you have any questions about renting an FS7 or the Odyssey 7Q, or would like to see an in store demo, give me a call at 952.974.3140.
