We recently were troubleshooting some issues with Blackmagic Design’s Ursa Broadcast Camera power consumption and were surprised that we couldn’t find a published power spec anywhere. We sent an email to Blackmagic Design’s Tech Support (it is pretty good these days) and here is their response:
The URSA Broadcast draws up to 40W with a B4 ENG lens connected. The Studio Viewfinder can draw up to 14.0W maximum. The 12V100W power supply will provide up to 8.3A of power.
Another advantage of an ENG camera with a smaller sensor size is that the lensing for longer throws is a lot lighter and a lot more affordable than comparable digital cinema options. Finally, the ability to have really smooth and precise pan bar mounted controls for zoom and focus is super important for live events where your camera operators are responding in real-time to scene changes and following action / motion on stage.
So there you go! This camera has been super popular with our customers – both on the purchasing side and with rentals. What it really allows you to do is spend more of your budget on glass (i.e. lenses). Putting a better quality, longer, and faster lens on any camera is a great way to improve your final product.
Z Systems is one of the largest Blackmagic Design dealers in the midwest. We have quite a bit of gear in stock and available for pickup at our Saint Louis Park Office, so Twin-Cities residents can simply swing by and pick up what you need instead of having to pay rush charges and hope that Fed Ex makes it to their doorstep in time for your next project. This includes cameras, switchers, converters, monitors, and DaVinci Resolve licenses.
As always, we are happy to match any authorized reseller’s on-line prices AND give you great local service and support.
Hope this helps! Thanks Blackmagic Design tech support!
