The Sony FX5 Cinema Camera brings the latest advancements from Sony’s Cinema Line into a compact system built for today’s hybrid productions. Featuring a newly developed 16.6MP full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor, the next-generation BIONZ XR2 image processor with an integrated AI processing unit, and professional recording options including Open Gate capture and internal X-OCN, the FX5 delivers exceptional speed, image quality, and production flexibility. Whether producing documentary films, commercial work, branded content, or independent cinema, the FX5 is designed for creators who demand the performance of a dedicated cinema camera without sacrificing mobility or efficiency.

A New Place in the Cinema Line

The FX5 is a wholly new entry into Sony’s ever-expanding Cinema Line. It fits neatly in between the compact FX3-with which the FX5 shares a form factor-and the more seriously equipped FX6. Each one has its own set of features and tools that make it better suited to different types of video production. The biggest change to note is that the FX5 has moved to a next-gen sensor technology with its 16.6MP 5K fully stacked CMOS compared to the 12MP BSI CMOS of the FX3 and FX6. Here’s a closer look at how the FX3 and FX6 are positioned in relation to the FX5.

The FX3 was the ultimate handheld compact cinema camera from Sony when it first launched, and its performance remains among the best in the industry. Where the FX3 differs from the FX5 is that it borrows a lot from the Alpha series; the menu and controls are easier for users who also use mirrorless cameras like an a7R VI. Plus, the FX3 has a physical shutter and proper still image capture (including raw) for dual-purpose use.

Looking at the FX6, the FX5 is much closer in menu, features, and operation than the FX3. However, the FX6 still maintains many features expected of a traditional production cinema camera, including pro-quality connections (e.g., SDI), more physical controls, a built-in electronic ND filter (versus the stabilization of the FX5), and compatibility with Sony’s larger BP-U series battery packs.

Designed for highly mobile, solo cine-style shooting, the Sony BURANO 8K Digital Cinema Camera offers up to 8.6K video capture in a compact, full-frame form. Unique in-camera stabilization for both E- and PL-mount lenses, Fast Hybrid Autofocus, and an easily adjustable ND filter enhance single-user capture and seamless image matching, making the CineAlta BURANO camera ideal for use as your VENICE B or C camera.

Full-Frame 8.6K CMOS Sensor

The BURANO camera’s 8.6K CMOS sensor not only matches the VENICE 8K’s exceptional imagery, but it also incorporates Sony’s renowned autofocus technology—a huge boon for single operators when facing fast-paced environments with challenging focus.
The sensor also offers both full-frame and Super35 modes, enabling you to select from a vast array of lenses to suit a variety of project types.

ARRI PL and Sony E Mounts

The BURANO is equipped with the same rugged, reliable PL- and E-mount system as the VENICE series, enabling you to select your glass from a huge selection of lenses.
The PL mount is compatible with all Super35 and full-frame PL lenses in both spherical and anamorphic versions. It also supports Cooke/I technology for frame-by-frame metadata and ZEISS eXtended Data.
The E-mount supports metadata when using Sony E-mount lenses.

Autofocus

Variable ND Filter

Blackmagic Design ATEM Constellation 8K

The Blackmagic Design ATEM Constellation 8K is a powerful switcher in a 2 RU chassis which can easily handle 4K video and supports 8K. It features a built-in control panel on the front and 40 12G-SDI inputs, with two main and 24 AUX 12G-SDI outputs. Each input has its own standards converter, which allows you to seamlessly switch between inputs no matter what format it is. The Constellation 8K incorporates four DVE, 16 Keyers, and four media players, allowing for flexibility in creating your program. Four multiview outputs enable viewing 4, 7, 10, 13, or 16 simultaneous views.

The relatively large LCD view screen on the front of the unit displays the input video with a label of the input number. You can control the Constellation 8K locally via the front panel buttons, or you can use the built-in Ethernet connector to control the system from a computer using the included control panel software. The built-in Fairlight audio mixer supports 80 channels of de-embedded audio from SDI, plus 64 channels via MADI in. Talkback functionality is available via the 5-pin XLR on the front of the unit, or the RJ12 connector on the back.
